Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
